Xiaomi Mi 5s

The Xiaomi Mi 5s impresses with “only” a 1080p display. Still though, that many pixels packed into a 5.15″ display works out to an impressive 428ppi. It might not be 2K or 4K, but the display is still plenty capable of showing off its chops. While colours are punchy and quite vivid for an LCD display, it still pales relatively to an AMOLED display.

What really impressed me was the very high maximum brightness of 600 nits. The screen is easily viewable in direct, strong, sunlight and is capable of blinding you indoors. Minimum brightness is pleasantly low as well, the screen is light on the eyes even in pitch darkness, making this a great phone to use in bed (please don’t, it destroys your sleep cycle).

Xiaomi Mi 5s

Probably the biggest caveat is the lack of protective glass. Xiaomi for some reason decided it was a good idea to forego Gorilla Glass in exchange for a normal one and I for one am puzzled by that decision. That being said, definitely get a screen protector for the phone.  new virsion 2017 whsap

For a phone aimed directly at the hearts of high end flagships, it doesn’t do very well in the audio department. While speaker quality is very loud to the point of hurting your ears, it doesn’t do quite as well with quality.

When compared directly to an HTC 10, the audio is definitely less detailed and clear and bass is lacking as well. However, these speakers are still more than good enough for average use.

I had high hopes for the battery life in the Mi 5s because of its decent 3200mAh battery and Xiaomi’s traditionally excellent battery optimization. Suffice it to say that I was pleasantly surprised and slightly disappointed at the same time.

The lab results exceeded my expectations quite modestly with the phone holding out for 12 hours while web browsing and almost 13 and a half hours for video playback. If this translates directly into daily use, battery life could potentially outperform the Lenovo Z2 Plus. However, it does not.smadav 2017

Real life battery use topped out at around 5 hours of screen on time, which is a great result mind you, but the lab results provide significantly better times. My real life use consisted of web browsing, news, and Reddit on an almost equal mix of WiFi and LTE. I also snapped a few photos as well and the phone was on its last legs (about 6% left) 16 hours after it was off the charger.

Light and medium users will not be able to drain this phone in a day, while heavy users just might. There is quickcharge included that you can use to pump up the phones battery in a pinch.

Tablet Chuwi Hi13

Chuwi already hinted at working ona new flagship tablet model equipped with Intel Apollo Lake processor at the start of November on their Twitter and seems like the plans are finally coming to fruition soon. The new flagship Chuwi Hi13 is going to be revealed during the CES 2017 happening in Las Vegas right now. And we know all the important specs.

Tablet Chuwi Hi13The most important change compared to majority of chinese production in 2016 comes with the Intel’s decision to scrap the whole Atom line of processors so the new Chuwi Hi13 will come with Intel Celeron N3450 based on the Apollo Lake Platform. This 14nm processor with Goldmont architecture and max burst frequency of 2.2 GHz is about 50 % powerful than the Cherry Trails of the past and should be roughly on par with the Core M processors. Also the Intel HD Graphics 500 Gen. 9 chip has way more juice and also packs hardware decoding for H. 265 and VP9 codecs. Still pretty power effiecent with 6 W TDP and ability to operate fanless.new virsion 2017 whsap

Another fair highlight comes with the 13,5-inch display, which is more or less identical as the one used in Microsoft Surface Book and has pretty smooth 3000 x 2000 pixel resolution, 3:2 aspect ratio, 1700:1 contrast and 400 nits of brightness. It means the tablet won’t be a small delicate flower, but more like full sized small convertible or a laptop.

Full laptop utility will come with the optional detachable keyboard, which will be once again probably mandatory, because the tablet still doesn’t seem to have full-sized USB ports on the body, that’s left for the keyboard dock. The metal body itself looks very much similar to the previous generation of Chuwi tablets so no surprise there at all.

Rest of the hardware include 4 GB DDR3L RAM (where i think 8 GB could be already a better option) and 64 GB of sadly still eMMC storage. SSD disk would boost the power performance and usability to another level, maybe next time. Tablet should have stylus support and all the usual stuff like dualband Wi-Fi or USB Type-C port. Windows 10 Home as the used OS also feels more or less natural.

We have to wait for the actual pricing to fully evaluate the potention of Chuwi Hi13 to succeed in the market, but personally i welcome the new Apollo Lake platform with open arms, it’s really time to put the whole Atom X5-Z83xx generation into the early grave.

Oppo R9s

Steadily climbing its way into the number one position among smartphone makers in China, Oppo has made a name for itself by offering customers premium-feeling handsets at half the price of the competition. With this strategy, it’s perhaps no surprise that the company owns 23 percent of the market share in its home country (by comparison, Apple currently holds a 6 percent market share in China).

Now, its latest handset, the Oppo R9s, has just launched in Australia, and we got our hands on one for review.

Oppo R9s

Looking at the Oppo R9s in its naked form, it ‘d be easy to mistake it for an iPhone 7– its thin, rounded aluminium body, slightly-protruding camera bump, matte finish and similarly-placed buttons seem clearly modelled after the Apple flagship (though its pill-shaped capacitive home button gives its Android status away), as does its new iOS-aping ColorOS 3.0 software.

But what the phone may lack in design originality, it makes up for in sheer value. Though it has a retail price of AU$ 599 (around US$ 457 and ₤ 365), many of the hallmarks we’ve come to expect from a premium phone are present here.

With the R9s, Oppo has produced its most polished phone to date. Though its success in China is a given, does the Oppo R9s have what it takes to become the king of mid-range phones in the western world? Though it’s only non-Asian market is Australia at present, its success here could open up wider avenues for Oppo in the future. And if it doesn’t happen, it won’t be for fault of this impressive handset.  whatsapp 2017

So far, there’s no word on when the Oppo R9s will arrive in the US and UK, but we’ll keep you updated on any developments. However, it is currently available in Singapore at a price of S$ 679.

Design

As was mentioned earlier, the iPhone 7 was a clear touchstone in the Oppo R9s’ design. Smooth and rounded, the only sharpness you’ll find here is in the screen’s edges, which aren’t quite as close to the handset as they are on Apple’s flagship. It is thinner, though– the Oppo R9s is 6.6 mm thick, compared to the iPhone 7’s 7.1 mm. It’s rather slippery in the hand, but thankfully, Oppo has included a clear silicone case and an already-applied screen protector with each handset.

Like the iPhone 7, the Oppo R9s has a capacitive touch home button which doubles as a fingerprint sensor, and while it doesn’t provide the faux ‘click’ sensation of Apple’s handset, it does offer a slight tremor when pressed. Where it does have Apple beat, however, is in its speed– the Oppo R9s offers one of the fastest sensors we’ve ever experienced, seemingly unlocking the phone instantly. It’s also got a hydrophobic membrane over it which helps the sensor register your prints, even when your digits are moist.

Whether this means the sensor offers less security than its rivals is unknown, though after numerous attempts, no one other than myself was able to unlock the handset. Joining the home button are two capacitive ‘recents’ and ‘back’ buttons, which are set in that order from left to right– Galaxy-style. Again, like the iPhone, the device’s power button sits on the right edge and two volume buttons on the left.

A dual SIM tray offers space for (you guessed it) two nano-SIM cards, or one SIM card and a microSD card up to 256GB to join the device’s 64GB of onboard storage. On the bottom of the phone, you’ll find a speaker grille, a micro USB port and, thankfully, a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

At first glance, you might not notice the antenna lines across the R9s’s back. Though the R9s shares the iPhone 6’s antenna placement, its ultra-fine “six-string” antenna layout is almost invisible from certain angles, giving it more of an iPhone 7-like appearance.

Xiaomi Redmi 4A

We recently reviewed the Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime and were incredibly impressed with the phone overall. It managed to squeeze a midrange device within a budget price range and succeeded by and large. The Redmi 4A looks to do something very similar, price a budget device at ultra budget prices.

Released at $70, this is the realm of incredibly cheap phones with subpar specifications to match. $70 phones from China are usually not worth your money and the specifications in these devices speak for themselves. Can Xiaomi make a compelling entry level device within the range of ultra budget prices? Let’s find out.  opera neon apk

Xiaomi Redmi 4A

The ultra budget segment was largely the realm of no name brands releasing garbage until recently. Technology has advanced enough to allow for ultra budget devices that actually work and as a result, we see a constant flood of ultra budget devices from the likes of Bluboo, Homtom, and Doogee, all established phone manufacturers in this segment. We see decent (and not so decent) ultra budget devices being released such as the Bluboo Picasso, Homtom HT8, and the Doogee X5 Max Pro all released below $100 and promising a fulfilling experience.

However, more often than not, the MT6580 processor (used in many of these devices) isn’t up to the task (nothing more than texting and calling anyway) and results in a poor experience. However, we see here a decidedly high entry level processor in the Snapdragon 425 coupled with 2GB of RAM which should provide a very decent, fluid experience. However, the Redmi 4A does reduce the battery size from the usual 4100mAh to 3030mAh, so we are a little trepidatious about how the battery life will turn out. eva face apk

SMARTPHONES Motorola Moto G4 Play

This isn’t the first time we’ve recommended a budget smartphone from Motorola; the company consistently produces some of the most compelling devices in the sub-$ 200 category. While the Moto G4 is a decent piece of hardware for $199, the real value lays in the Moto G4 Play at just $149, which is our current recommendation for best budget smartphone.

You’re not getting top-end hardware in the Moto G4 Play, but you will get everything that made last year’s Moto G great at a $70 lower price point. This includes the decent (though not spectacular) Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 SoC, a capable 5.0-inch 720p display that’s now slightly brighter and more vibrant, and a near-stock version of Android that runs smoothly. eva face apk

SMARTPHONES Motorola Moto G4 Play

Motorola has made some handy changes as well. 16 GB of storage and 2 GB of RAM is standard, plus you’re still getting microSD expansion. Battery life has been improved, and despite the larger, now-removable battery, the Moto G4 Play is slimmer than its predecessor. The camera has been changed from a 13-megapixel shooter to just 8-megapixels, but it’s just as good from an image quality perspective. The Moto G4 Play is categorically better than anything we’ve tested at $149, and it’s an absolute steal for $99 if you’re willing to put up with annoying Amazon ads. smadav 2017 rev. 11.2 free download

And before you ask, we know many of you will be wondering why we haven’t recommended a Chinese smartphone with better specifications. OEMs like Xiaomi and Meizu do produce compelling products at $150 and most beat the G4 Play on the spec sheet. However, we’ve tried several of these devices, and they just don’t provide as good an experience. In most cases, the Moto G4 Play is faster to use, packs a much better camera, and runs software that doesn’t constantly frustrate.

More Expensive, But Excellent Value
If you have a bit more money to spend, it’s worth considering the Google Nexus 5X. Currently available for $280– but we have seen it on sale for less– the Nexus 5X provides the best value of last-generation flagships. It packs stock Android with fast updates from Google, decent performance, and a great camera.

OnePlus 3 SMARTPHONES

Update: Shortly after we published our update to The Best Smartphones, OnePlus did something unexpected by making the OnePlus 3, its most popular phone release so far, obsolete after just five months. Don’t fret however, the new OnePlus 3T is a drop-in replacement set to arrive as soon as late November. For an extra $40 ($ 439), the OnePlus 3T is the exact same phone with a few updates: a faster Snapdragon 821 SoC, a slightly better front camera, and slightly larger battery. There’s also a new color option and for $479 you can opt for 128GB of internal storage.

OnePlus 3 SMARTPHONES

What follows below pertains to the OnePlus 3, most of which will apply to the newer 3T: If you don’t want to spend more than $500 on a smartphone like the Google Pixel or iPhone 7, look no further than the OnePlus 3. Available for $399, the OnePlus 3 includes the same array of hardware as its more expensive competitors, and this makes it the best value smartphone currently on the market. We were amazed at the beauty of the OnePlus 3’s slender metal chassis, and it doesn’t skimp on battery life either, matching most other high-end phones in this department. The Snapdragon 820 SoC inside, combined with a massive 6 GB of RAM and 64 GB of high-speed storage, delivers outstanding performance across the board. xender dowanlod 2017

Other features you ‘d expect from a flagship are all here. There’s USB Type-C for fast charging and data transfers, a capable 16-megapixel camera with optical image stabilization, and a front fingerprint scanner. You don’t get the waterproof body of the Galaxy S7, or its expandable storage, but these are largely irrelevant trade-offs at such an attractive price.

It’s also worth talking about the software on the OnePlus 3. Like with many of the phones we recommend, the OnePlus 3 runs near-stock Android, and OnePlus has promised to upgrade the handset to Android 7 before the end of the year. eva face apk

Apple iPhone 7 Plus

Prefer iOS over Android? The Apple iPhone 7 Plus could be the phone for you, and since it’s a little over two months old, now is the perfect time in Apple’s release cycle to upgrade.

The iPhone 7 Plus includes several handy updates over its predecessor, including a faster A10 Fusion SoC, an updated display with support for wider color gamuts, and more internal storage across the board. The design is largely unchanged from its predecessor, and Apple has removed the headphone jack, however they’ve compensated for this by making the entire phone water resistant. eva facial apk download

Apple iPhone 7 Plus

From what we’ve seen, the camera on the 7 Plus is not quite as good as the Pixel, and there’s no virtual reality support to speak of. With that said, Apple’s software ecosystem is strong and iOS arguably has a better selection of apps and games to enjoy. On top of that, all iPhones are guaranteed to receive fast software updates for many years.
We prefer the iPhone 7 Plus as it packs better hardware than its smaller equivalent, the iPhone 7, although both handsets are great choices. The iPhone 7 Plus does cost more, but it packs a second camera with 2x optical zoom, and typically you can achieve better battery life on the larger model as well.smadav 2017 rev. 11.2 free download

BEST OF SMARTPHONES

Google Pixel XL

Throughout the years we’ve reviewed dozens of smartphones and got hands on time with plenty others. The good news is that for the most part smartphones have become so good in terms of hardware and design that it’s getting harder to pick something you will truly regret. Or if you’re the glass half empty kinda person, they’ve become so good that

picking the one that’s right for you can be a challenging task.
You’ve likely read the reviews and have your own opinions based on the devices you owned and currently own, but with our vast access to devices, the best smartphones feature intends to highlight the stuff that matters and make it easier for you to buy the right device.

BEST OF SMARTPHONESBEST OF SMARTPHONES

The Pixel is Google’s first phone, and it ended up as not just the best Android device ever made, but the best smartphone currently on the market (and that includes the iPhone). It’s not a perfect device– the design is not a head-turner, and it lacks water resistance– however most key areas impress and outperform the competition. The camera is the Pixel’s best feature. It’s extremely fast to focus and capture, it produces outstanding images in all conditions, and it packs unique features like jaw-dropping 4K video stabilization. When you buy the Pixel, you can boast to your mates how you have the best smartphone camera you can currently get. eva facial mouse apk

Other aspects of the Pixel are equally impressive. The Snapdragon 821 SoC doesn’t crush benchmarks, but when combined with optimized software you’re left with a snappy experience that’s noticeably faster than its Android competitors. The display is vibrant in its standard mode and accurate in its sRGB mode, plus you get crisp 1440p on the Pixel XL. And battery life is very good overall, with fast charging an added bonus.

The Pixel includes the latest version of Android, unmodified, with Google’s promise to provide quick updates and security patches. It includes Google Assistant, which is surprisingly good and not available on other Android phones (for now), plus support for Google’s excellent Daydream VR platform.

We recommend the Pixel XL, the 5.5-inch variant, purely because of the extra screen real estate and slightly better battery life. Its smaller brother, the 5.0-inch Pixel, includes basically the same set of hardware and is also worth considering. The main downside? You’ll have to fork out a lot of money to get the best phone on the market, as Google has priced the Pixel to match the iPhone. eva facial mouse apk

Also a Fantastic Option
Rated the best smartphone of the first half of 2016, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge remains a fantastic piece of hardware. It’s a bit cheaper than the Pixel phones ($600), and the design is waterproof and far more attractive. You’re still getting excellent performance, battery life, and camera, but Samsung’s TouchWiz skin lacks the quality of stock Android. It also doesn’t explode, unlike the arguably better but now discontinued Galaxy Note 7.
